.....Because banning them is futile for more than one reason:

Not only do criminals get their hands on illegal weapons despite bans, there is also a perfectly legal way to fire a weapon full-auto, with or without a special stock.

Yes, folks, any semiautomatic weapon can be bump fired, even pistols.

What are you going to do about it?  Ban all semiautomatic firearms?

Good luck with that.

They don't need to be legal.

Just look at Canada!

Just because there's no immediate need for them to be legal doesn't mean that they should be illegal. I'm the type of person that obeys the law, and yet would legally buy a machine gun if he had the opportunity to do so.

Yeah, YOU are, but not everyone. There will always be some crazy guy who thinks "you know what? I want to kill a bunch of people! I'm glad I can get the needed weapon so easily"

Also, gun activists seem to always concentrate on murder of the first degree, planned murders, not second. On an action of impulse, someone may grab their gun and kill someone for stupid reasons. It has happened before. One guy was blocked in at a restaurant, so he grabbed his gun, went up the the passenger window of the car in front of him and shot a 16 year old girl to death. If he hadn't had a gun, that girl would still be alive.

Banning guns would cause the rate of shootings to go down considerably. Once again, I bring Canada to the stand. Even if Canada had the population of the the USA, there still would be considerably less shootings that there are in the states. Do you know why? Because of strict gun laws.

Strict gun laws work if you can enforce them. So as long as they can be enforced effectively, they should be put into effect.

Keep in mind, though, that people kill people, not guns. Even if the gun violence is lower, the total amount of violent crimes committed could have been easily higher.

"cliche saying" The guns are the tools provided, though. Without the tools provided, the people would not have the means to preform the shooting. Gun activists seem to forget that fact.

"could", so it is not something that is 100% proven. It is only a possibility.

The numbers of mall/school/ect shootings would be much lower, though.

Guess how many school shootings are executed on average per year in Canada?

I keep bringing up Canada, because it is a perfect example of successful gun laws, and proves that stricter gun laws actually work. Gun activists think they need a gun to protect themselves, that's not true at all.

more extensive psychiatric examination?

A citizen doesn't need a weapon, unless he/she is a hunter. Only exception. And even then, there should be a much more thorough and extensive psychiatric examination.

Let me list several weapons that can easily replace a gun:

*knives, including throwing knives. My older brother bought several butterfly knives with ease.
*pistol crossbows
*any crossbow
*beer bottle
*a pipe bomb
*a molotov cocktail
*bow and arrow
*any homemade bomb ever

Also, a knifing can be just as disastrous as a shooting:

Just because there are things that can be used to replace a gun, doesn't mean that guns shouldn't be made illegal. We are talking shootings here. Also, second degree murders would not apply to most of those. Someone isn't going to get pissed for some stupid reason, grab their homemade bomb they carry around with them, and toss it through the window of the car that blocked them in.

it's easier to stop a knife than a bullet. If someone with an automatic weapon walks into a room of people with an automatic weapon, who would win?

Now replace that with a knife.

"Now replace that with a gun."

Take it a step further and replace it with a homemade bomb.

It might interest you to know that those with legal concealed weapons permits tend to be better citizens than NYC police officers. You should be just as, if not more, worried about a police officer committing second degree murder than a citizen owning a gun. They have a better reason to be stressed than most people who carry a gun around with them.

I actually would like these gun control measures to be passed so we can see them fail epically. When violent crime continues despite these bans, the Dems are going to be left scratching their heads.
